We’re excited to share that Greyparrot Analyzer is helping Europe’s largest PET plastic recycler maximize their yield and support waste regulation.
GreenTech — part of the Romania-based Green Group — have kicked off AI adoption by deploying Analyzers at key facilities in Romania, Lithuania and Slovakia.
With each country presenting its own use-cases for AI waste analytics, their team are drawing a new blueprint for data-driven operations at a multinational level.
Turning infeed data into high-quality rPET
GreenTech turn a PET recycling capacity of over 150,000 tonnes a year into 100% recycled products, including rPET granules, flakes, straps, and polyester fiber. To meet their high standards — and strict European requirements for food-grade products — they need to know as much as possible about the material they’re receiving.
Greyparrot Analyzers track the composition of GreenTech’s infeed material in all three countries. Their facility managers use that data to adjust infeed blends and throughput rates as composition shifts — maximising yield and maintaining high quality standards.
For GreenTech CTO Alan Smith, Analyzer insight directly contributes to the organisation’s overall performance:
"The data that we get from Analyzer is really detailed. That's going to impact sorting, and how we change our infeed 'recipes'.
The technology will add long-term value as we feed back to our suppliers on quality, but the key benefit is that this will drive better yield. That's a core performance metric rather than a nice-to-have."Alan Smith, CTO at GreenTech
More cost-effective support for deposit return schemes
In Lithuania and Romania, deposit return schemes (DRS) present an added use-case for AI waste analytics. Currently, counting machines and manual samplers support DRS by tracking the amount of relevant packaging being returned to the circular economy.
After testing Analyzer against existing machines, GreenTech found that AI provided more accurate item counts. As a more cost-effective alternative to human samplers, AI waste analytics will now play a key role in compliance for their Romanian and Lithuanian facilities.
From technology to business-wide strategy
With multiple use-cases and simultaneous deployments across three countries, GreenTech’s technical team is already crafting standards for using and applying Analyzer data. By embedding waste data in their operations, the organization isn’t just adopting Greyparrot Analyzer — they’re building a business-wide AI strategy.
As their new AI partner, we’re thrilled to form the foundation of that strategy, and support their mission to close the loop on plastic recycling.
