Greyparrot and NextWaste Join Forces to Digitise French Waste Management Facilities with Cutting-Edge AI

Innovative partnership will improve industry recycling rates and support France’s transition towards a circular economy

Paris, France, May 22nd – Greyparrot, a pioneer in AI waste analytics, and NextWaste, a leading French integrator and distributor of waste management solutions, today announce an innovative partnership to bring AI waste analytics to the French waste sector and improve recycling efficiency in France. Innovation, including plant automation and digitisation, is a key topic at next week’s prestigious Salon Solucir event (May 28th-29th), where NextWaste executives will collaborate with other industry leaders to identify and support local solutions to establish and develop the circular economy.

Through this pioneering collaboration, NextWaste will leverage Greyparrot's AI waste analytics to help customers use data-driven insights to improve waste sorting and ensure maximum resource recovery. Greyparrot’s unmatched AI capabilities provide 100% visibility into waste composition, helping MRFs (material recovery facilities) unlock a new, more intelligent level of insight about waste that Greyparrot calls waste intelligence. The partnership marks NextWaste’s latest move to drive eco-innovation and sustainability in the French waste management sector and accelerate France's achievement of sustainability goals.

This partnership comes at a critical time in France’s move toward a circular economy.  With ambitious targets to increase waste recycling rates to 65% by 2025, the French government is taking a multi-pronged approach to regulation, with significant implications for the waste management industry.

  • The AGEC Law (Anti-Waste and for a Circular Economy) has mandated stricter waste sorting and recycling targets
  • The upcoming European Green Deal lays out a roadmap for achieving climate neutrality by 2050, including stricter sorting rules for specific plastic waste streams and the prevention of packaging waste, boosting reuse and refill, and making all packaging recyclable by 2030

NextWaste is actively supporting the transformation to a circular economy by empowering French MRFs with advanced automation technologies that improve plant efficiency and pave the way for a cleaner future. AI waste analytics’s ability to unlock data insights in real-time  – enables optimisation of waste processing and higher recovery rates - makes Greyparrot’s solution a logical extension to the company’s current offering.

The Greyparrot Analyzer, recently upgraded to include the industry’s most advanced analytics dashboard, uses AI to effectively monitor waste stream composition and distil an entire sorting facility’s operations onto a single, unified view on a live screen. Customers realise immediate efficiency and profitability gains and achieve long-term plant optimisation. Additionally, operators are able to optimise processes to recycle more waste at a higher quality and to therefore meet with regulatory requirements.

“We are thrilled to partner with Greyparrot to bring AI waste analytics to French MRFs,” said Guillaume-Henri Hurel, Directeur Associé de NextWaste of NextWaste. “AI waste analytics increases our technology offerings to customers, providing the data-driven insights our customers have been asking for to increase processing capacity and improve recovery rates – critical steps to accelerating France’s move toward a circular economy.”

Noting that Greyparrot was recently selected to join CITEO’s prestigious Circular Challenge cohort, Anne-Lucie Werquin, Directrice d’Innovation at CITEO, said, “Artificial Intelligence solutions such as Greyparrot enable sorting and recycling operations to be optimised and digitised for better management and improved performance.”

“We’re excited to partner with NextWaste to expand our impact in the French market,” said Gaspard Duthilleul, COO of Greyparrot. “Together, we can support customers to meet the demands of growing waste flows and support regulatory compliance to achieve EU recycling targets.”

About Greyparrot:
Greyparrot (greyparrot.ai), the leader in AI waste analytics, is applying AI to globally scale recycling and save millions of tonnes of waste from landfills and incinerators. By providing deeper, more intelligent insights about waste stream composition and value, Greyparrot is helping the waste sector recover more value from waste processing lines and reduce the environmental impact of waste.

The company’s waste intelligence platform, including Greyparrot Analyzer and Greyparrot Sync (API), reveals real-time insights on over 70 waste categories across seven layers of data, including financial value, brand, and GHG emissions, captured at multiple locations across a recycling facility. In 2023, Greyparrot analyzed over 25 billion waste objects helping drive efficiency to save hundreds of thousands, to millions, of dollars per facility – while diverting millions of tonnes of waste away from landfills, oceans, and incinerators.

Using Greyparrot insights, recycling professionals, plant builders, packaging producers, and FMCG brands can make decisions to help them increase recycling efficiency, comply with recycling regulations, and improve recyclable packaging design.
